As a clean, plant-based beauty company, we were very excited to see what New York designers have been up to this season in terms of lessening their impact. It’s exciting to see more consumers choosing to be eco-conscious, ethical and impactful with their purchase power. We admire designers Mara Hoffman and TOME for their green efforts this NYFW. We also were inspired by the next generation of designers -- the Parsons MFA ‘Generation 7’ program put together a show centered around sustainability. Here we highlight the shows, as well as a fun hair look we worked on with one of our favorite hair influencers, Olivia, for her fashion week ensemble.
Olivia Jeanette prepped her hair with our Voluminous Dry Shampoo for a quick lift, and with our Cream Wax for manageability. After she braided, she locked in the look with our Defining Hair Spray, taming any flyaways. She looked incredible for the shows!
We are very inspired by the work of Mara Hoffman, as a brand, and especially at this season’s NYFW. Her eco-conscious designs are created to reduce impact without reducing style. The materials used to create the designs are sourced organic, recycled and regenerated materials. The manufacturing process is ethical as well, as they partner with a myriad of organizations and nonprofits to ensure that the people involved in the manufacturing are treated respectfully and paid fairly. In the NYFW 2019 Spring Ready-to-Wear presentation Mara Hoffman showcased a contrasting collection with light, dark and floral organic linen and cotton. The collection is bold with many of the looks being monochromatic, with puffy sleeves and long skirts. Here are a few of our favorite looks from the SS19 collection.

Another designer that caught our eye this season was TOME. TOME is an Australian designer duo including Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo. They strive to make fashions less detrimental to society and the world, while creating designs that are clean cut and practical. This season was inspired by female impressionist painters Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot and was created using completely natural linen, hemp and cotton. The dyes in the collection were handmade from merigold, rose and hibiscus flowers. The pieces that stood out to us were pleated dresses and oversized button-downs, which gave off a very carefree but put-together vibe. The Parsons MFA ‘Generation 7’ collection was comprised of 14 young designers showcasing 120 different looks. Donna Karan, who started the MFA program in 2010, really took note of the designers’ conscious effort to be sustainable, saying, “Everything was made from scratch — every fabric, every bead, every design. For these guys to do that is extraordinary. Usually, you see things like that on the recycled level. But they made every single thing.” - WWD
